To fans throughout the world, the name Reid Speed is synonymous with the legacy of American Drum & Bass and the history of the North American Heavy Bass movement. Consistently ranked as one of America’s top DJ’s, she’s known for her straight up skills on the decks, effortlessly mixing between genres on the fly. Her Speed of Sound podcast and her Facebook live streams reach thousands of listeners each month, while her original productions consistently land in high profile playlists and top DJ’s sets alike, and keep her fans excited with their ever-evolving styles. Her award-winning Play Me Records label has introduced more top talent than any of it's kind and solidified Reid’s place in the industry as a respected tastemaker and curator.
Reid has been on the forefront of bass music for more than a decade. She came up in the New York underground selling records at the legendary Breakbeat Science, where was one of the first American drum & bass DJs to incorporate the sounds of 2-step and speed garage into her mixes. Since then, she has torn up venues across the United States and Europe as well as in such exotic locales as Costa Rica. Her history with festivals is lengthy, having done Ultra (7 years), WEMF, Together As One, Monster Massive, Dancefestopia, Sunset Music and many, many more. She’s made television appearances on shows such as The Jamie Kennedy Experiment and MDN on Spike TV. In 2009, she co-founded the influential label Play Me Records, whose output helped usher in the North American Bass music movement. The label has been honored with the titles Best Dubstep Label / Best New Artist 2010 by Beatport as well as Best Branded Label 2011/ 2012 by Symphonic Distribution. With Reid Speed at the helm, the label played a major role as EDM grew in popularity in the United States during the early 2010s. Reid, her original productions as well as Play Me have been consistently featured on “best of heavy bass music” lists in publications such as Spin, Nylon, and DJ Mag.
With her no holds barred attitude and fierce, fearless work ethic, Reid Speed is a true queen amongst DJs. She’s gained the admiration of fans and fellow musicians from around the world for her consistent stream of success and innovation. As a producer, Reid’s tracks have consistently charted in the Beatport /Soundcloud top 10 charts and receive major worldwide support and radio play (Power 106 LA, BBC1xtra, and KCRW to name a few) and have been licensed to brands and networks like Bravo, MTV, Nike, Skingraft, Lenovo, Sol Republic, and Puma. Her storied career has been based in constant growth and she shows no signs of slowing down.
